Write an async update template for my team
Writes a written status update template that replaces a recurring status meeting, with five fixed fields and a worked example.
Task:
Write a written update template for my team that can replace our [name of recurring meeting] meeting.
Context:
The team has [team size] people in [time zones]. The meeting today takes [minutes] minutes and happens [how often]. Updates are read by [readers] and posted in [channel or tool]. What we want to learn from the update is [what readers need to know].
Rules:
- Use exactly five fixed fields, such as progress, next, blockers, decisions needed and help offered, and rename them to fit my team.
- Give each field a word limit and a one-line instruction on what belongs in it.
- Write the template so that a reader can scan it in under two minutes.
- Add a rule for how to ask for a decision asynchronously, including a reply deadline and what happens when nobody answers.
- Include one filled-in example about an invented project, with obviously fake names and numbers.
Result:
The template with its five fields and their limits, then the example update, then one sentence on when a live meeting is still the better choice.
