Plan a real-time dashboard with refresh and alerts
Plans a dashboard that updates live, with refresh rules per metric, alert thresholds as numbers and what to show when data stops arriving.
Task:
Plan a live dashboard for the metrics below, with refresh rules and alerts that people will trust.
Context:
The dashboard is watched by [who] to decide [which decisions]. The metrics are [metric 1], [metric 2] and [metric 3], coming from [data sources]. It is shown on [wall screen, desktop or phone] and the team reacts within [time].
Rules:
- Give each metric a refresh interval in seconds or minutes, and say whether it needs to be live at all or whether a slower refresh would serve the decision just as well.
- Give each alert a threshold, how long the condition must last, and who is told; use placeholders for threshold values I must set from my own history.
- Show the time of the last update on the dashboard and describe what the screen looks like when a source stops sending data.
- Limit the main screen to at most six tiles, and say what moves to a second screen.
Result:
A table with the columns metric, refresh, alert rule and owner, then the layout of the main screen in at most five lines and a stale-data screen in two lines.
