Decide which sites to block while I work
Sorts the sites you visit into block, limit and allow, sets time rules, and notes what to check in the blocking tool before relying on it.
Task:
Sort the sites below into block during work, limit to set times, and allow, and write the blocking rules.
Context:
I work on [kind of work] from [start time] to [end time]. My goal is [for example, two hours of uninterrupted work]. I use [browser or browsers]. I need some sites for work, namely [sites needed for work].
Rules:
- Give one short reason for each site, based on my list and my goal only.
- Put every site that could be needed for work into limit or allow, not block, and ask me about it if unsure.
- Write the rules as time windows with numbers, and add one rule for emergencies that does not need the blocker switched off.
- Mention the common ways people bypass a blocker and one way to reduce each.
- Do not claim how any specific blocking tool works. Tell me to confirm in the tool that a rule really blocks, by testing each site once.
Result:
Three lists with one line per site, then the rules as a table with the columns when, what and exception.
Material:
[paste the sites you visit most, one per line, with rough minutes per day]
