Choose the right chart for each question I ask
Matches each of your questions about the data to one chart type, with the reason and a warning where your data may not support the question.
Task:
Match each question below to the one chart type that answers it best, and explain the match in one sentence.
Context:
My data has these columns, [column names with their types, for example date, category or number], and about [number] rows. The audience is [audience] and the charts will be made in [tool].
Rules:
- Name one primary chart type per question, plus one alternative only where two types are close, and say what the question needs (comparison, change over time, part of a whole, relationship or distribution).
- Check whether my columns and row count can support each question. If a question needs a column I do not have, or the rows are too few for a pattern, say so instead of choosing a chart anyway.
- Do not make up data. Where a chart needs a number I did not provide, say what is missing.
- Mention the one common mistake for each chosen chart type.
Result:
A table with the columns question, chart type, why, data check and common mistake.
