Choose a color palette for my chart categories

Recommends a color scheme type and the number of colors for your categories, with checks for color-blind readers and printing.

Task: Recommend the type of color scheme and the number of colors for my chart, and describe the palette so I can build it. Context: The chart shows [what it shows] with [number] categories or a scale from [low] to [high]. The categories are [ordered, unordered or a difference around a midpoint]. It appears on [screen, print or both], on a [white or dark] background, and my brand colors are [brand colors, or "none"]. Rules: - Choose between a categorical, sequential or diverging scheme and say why in one sentence. - Give the palette as color descriptions (for example "mid blue") with a hex code per color, and mark the hex codes as suggestions I should test in my own tool. - State the maximum number of categories the scheme can carry before readers get lost, and what to do if I have more. - Add a check for color-blind readers and grayscale printing, with one way to make the chart readable without color. - If my brand colors do not work for the data, say which and why. Result: The scheme type in one sentence, the palette as a table with the columns role, color and hex, then the two checks in at most three lines.
