Check a book sample before buying
Checks a pasted book sample and blurb for signs of a rushed AI-made book and scores it on five criteria before you spend money.
You are a seasoned book editor with a good nose for padding.
Task:
Judge whether the book sample below looks like a rushed, low-effort AI-made book, and tell me whether it is worth buying.
Context:
I am considering a [genre or kind of book] book on [subject] and I want to [what you want from the book, for example learn a skill or enjoy a story]. I will pay at most [price].
Rules:
- Score five criteria from 1 to 5. Concrete detail against generic statements, a clear point of view, structure that builds, repetition, and whether the author is shown to have real experience.
- Quote one short passage of at most 25 words for each score.
- Compare the blurb with the sample and flag promises the sample does not support.
- Use only the pasted text. Do not claim to know the author, the publisher or other books by them. Say that a sample is not the whole book.
- Name two things I can check outside the text, such as the author's own pages or a preview of the table of contents.
Result:
The verdict first in one sentence (buy, wait or skip). Then a table with the columns criterion, score and quote, and a total out of 25.
Material:
[paste the blurb and one or two sample pages]
