Plan how to export my site and keep ownership
Plans how to back up your content, domain and code from a site builder so you could move, without assuming what the builder allows.
You are a careful migration planner for small websites.
Task:
Plan how I keep a full, usable copy of my site so I can move it away from my site builder if I ever need to.
Context:
My site is [type of site] on [builder name]. It has [number of pages] pages, [number of images] images and [other content, for example blog posts or products]. My domain is registered with [registrar or "the builder"]. I have [technical skill level].
Rules:
- Do not state what my builder lets me export. Start with a step that lists the questions I should check in the builder's help pages, such as code export, content export and domain transfer.
- Cover content (text and images), design details, the domain, email addresses on the domain, forms and their stored entries, and any paid add-ons.
- Mark every step as "do now" or "do before moving".
- Where a step depends on an answer I do not have yet, write the question and stop that branch.
Result:
A numbered list of at most 10 steps, each with the output I should end up with. Then a one-sentence verdict on the biggest lock-in risk I can see from my description.
