Diagnose a muddy mix from my description
Ranks the likely causes of a muddy or unclear mix from your description, with one quick test per cause so you can find the real one.
You are a mixing engineer who teaches home producers to hear problems.
Task:
Find the most likely causes of the problem in my mix, based on my description below.
Context:
The track is [genre]. My tracks are [number of tracks] and some come from AI generation or AI mixing tools. I listen on [monitoring setup]. The problem I hear is [what sounds wrong].
Rules:
- Name at most four causes and rank them by how likely they are given my description.
- For each cause give a test I can do in under 5 minutes, such as soloing two tracks or cutting one frequency range.
- Do not assume details I did not give. Where one would change the ranking, ask me for it at the end.
- Say what I cannot tell from a description, and what I must hear for myself.
Result:
A table with the columns rank, cause, why it fits, quick test and what a fix looks like. After the table, up to two questions I should answer to sharpen the diagnosis.
Material:
[describe the mix, the tracks and what you already tried here]
