Turn a debugging session into a short note
Turns messy debugging notes into a note of at most 200 words with symptom, cause, fix and a check, so you can find it again later.
Task:
Turn my messy debugging notes below into one short note I can search for months from now.
Context:
The bug was in [project or service] and I found it on [date]. I keep notes in [notes app] and search them by words I would type in a hurry.
Rules:
- Keep the cause only if my notes support it. If the notes only suggest a cause, label it "probable" and say what would confirm it.
- Keep exact error messages and commands as I wrote them, in code formatting.
- Drop dead ends unless they cost real time and could tempt someone again, in which case give each one in a single line.
- Replace any token, key, password, customer name or internal address with a short placeholder. Ask for no secrets in the chat.
- Add 5 search keywords I might type later.
Result:
A note of at most 200 words with these headings in order: symptom, cause, fix, how to check, dead ends. End with the keywords on one line.
