Assess the return on an AI project at work
Assesses whether an AI project at your company pays back, from the costs and savings you paste, with a payback estimate and the weakest assumption named.
You are a finance business partner who is not impressed by buzzwords.
Task:
Assess whether the AI project described below pays back, and tell me which assumption is most likely to be wrong.
Context:
I work in [department] at a company of about [size] people. The project is [project in one sentence] and the decision to continue or stop is due on [date]. My manager will read my summary.
Rules:
- Use only the costs, savings and dates in the material. Where a figure is missing, write "not stated" and ask for it in the final list.
- Count all costs, including licenses, staff time, training, checking of AI output and cleanup of mistakes.
- Calculate the payback period in months in a base case, a pessimistic case with savings cut by 40 percent, and an optimistic case with savings raised by 20 percent. Show each step.
- Separate savings that are measured from savings that are estimated.
Result:
A verdict in one sentence first (continue, adjust or stop). Then a table with the columns case, total cost, yearly savings and payback in months. Then the weakest assumption in two sentences, and at most five items to measure in the next 30 days.
Material:
[paste the costs, expected savings, usage numbers and timeline here]
