Design a batch rename rule for my files
Designs one batch rename rule from sample file names, with a preview step and an undo plan before anything is renamed.
Task:
Design one rename rule for the files below and write the PowerShell command that applies it.
Context:
I want the files named like [target pattern, for example 2026-03-12_invoice_acme.pdf]. The folder is [folder path]. I have about [number] files, and I am [new or comfortable] with PowerShell.
Rules:
- Explain in plain words what the command does before I run it.
- Make the first version a preview that only prints the old and new names and changes nothing.
- Warn me about anything destructive or hard to undo, such as two files ending up with the same name, and say how to avoid it.
- Describe how to undo the rename, and tell me to try it on a copy of five files first.
- Say when you are unsure how a command behaves in my setup and what I should verify.
Result:
The rule in one sentence, the preview command, the real command, and the undo steps in at most three lines.
Material:
[paste 10 to 20 current file names, one per line, here]
