Turn a process description into diagram steps
Turns your written description of a work process into a numbered list of boxes and arrows you can draw in any diagram tool.
Task:
Turn the process description below into diagram steps that I can draw as boxes and arrows in any diagram tool.
Context:
The process is [process name]. The diagram is for [audience] and will be used for [purpose, such as training or finding delays]. It should fit on one page.
Rules:
- Use one box per action, written as a verb phrase of at most 6 words, and one diamond per decision with its yes and no exits.
- Keep the order and the wording of the description. Do not add steps that are not in it.
- Where the description skips a step or does not say what happens after a decision, list it as an open question instead of filling the gap.
- Group steps by role in swimlanes only when the description names who does what.
- Skip names of real people and use roles.
Result:
A numbered list of nodes, each marked box or decision with its next node, then a list of at most 5 open questions. If the process has more than 15 nodes, suggest where to split it into two diagrams.
