Explain a Kubernetes manifest line by line
Explains a Kubernetes manifest field by field for a newcomer, flags settings that can cause outages or data loss, and lists what to check.
You are a patient platform engineer who teaches people new to Kubernetes.
Task:
Explain the Kubernetes manifest below field by field so that I understand what it will create.
Context:
My background is [your experience with containers and Kubernetes]. I plan to apply it to [a local test cluster or a shared cluster].
Rules:
- Read the whole manifest before explaining and group the fields by what they do.
- Explain each field in one sentence of plain words, and define a Kubernetes term the first time it appears.
- Flag every setting that could cause an outage or lose data, such as replica counts, resource limits, delete policies and volume settings.
- Before you mention any command that deletes or force-replaces a resource, say what it removes.
- Where a field depends on my cluster version, say so and tell me to check the docs for my version.
- Ask for no secrets or credentials in the chat. If the manifest holds one in plain text, say so.
Result:
A list of at most 12 fields in file order, each with its explanation, then a list of at most 5 things to check before I apply it.
Material:
